About New Connections
New Connections is an innovative, award-winning 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization specializing in community behavioral healthcare, serving Contra Costa County families since 1972. New Connections operates clinics in Richmond, Pittsburg, and Concord. Our administrative headquarters is located at 3024 Willow Pass Road in Concord. Our services include adult and youth outpatient substance abuse and mental health treatment, HIV/AIDS case management and day center support, perinatal substance abuse and mental health treatment, including onsite childcare, school based counseling services and case management support and referral for CalWorks recipients.

Adult Alcohol and Drug Outpatient Treatment Intern - Central County

Adult Program Interns will effectively assess, intervene and provide counseling in substance abuse and mental health issues with individuals and groups; help clients to achieve beneficial and reachable goals; and work collaboratively with established partners and community agencies. Interns will be conducting groups on their own and be carrying a caseload. Interns will be able to earn adult and family intern hours and will be able to get both group and individual hours. Interns will receive one hour of group supervision, one hour of clinical supervision and one hour of treatment supervision per week. Interns receive $2,000 payment for a 12-month placement at 20 hours per week.

Perinatal Alcohol and Drug Outpatient Treatment Intern - Central County

Perinatal AOD Intensive Outpatient Program Interns will effectively assess, intervene and provide counseling in substance abuse and mental health issues with individuals, groups and families; help clients to achieve beneficial and reachable goals; work collaboratively with established partners and community agencies; and adapt and work with women and children from a wide variety of ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Interns will be able to earn adult and family intern hours and will be able to get both group and individual hours. Interns will receive two hours of group supervision and one hour of clinical supervision per week. Interns receive $2,000 payment for a 12-month placement at 20 hours per week.

Juvenile Drug Court Intern

Interns will effectively assess, intervene, and provide dual diagnosis treatment with individual adolescents, groups, and families. Interns will make presentations on alcohol, tobaccos, other drugs, and related topics. Interns have the opportunity to work collaboratively with the larger treatment team, which includes County Mental Health, County Substance Abuse Services, Probation, law enforcement, and Juvenile Drug Courts. Interns will receive ongoing training in various therapies for substance abuse assessment, prevention, intervention, and treatment. Interns will be able to earn adult and family intern hours and will be able to get both group and individual hours. Interns will receive one hour of group supervision, one hour of clinical supervision and one hour of treatment supervision per week. Interns receive $2,000 payment for a 12-month placement at 20 hours per week.

Youth Alcohol and Drug Outpatient Treatment Intern - Central County

Interns will be able to earn youth and family intern hours and will be able to get both group and individual hours. By the end of the internship you will be conducting groups on your own and be carrying a caseload. Interns will receive two hours of group supervision, one hour of clinical supervision and one hour of treatment supervision per week. Interns receive $2,000 payment for a 12-month placement at 20 hours per week.

School Counseling Program Trainee/Intern

Trainees and interns will effectively assess, intervene, and provide counseling in substance abuse and mental health issues with individual adolescents, groups, and families. Trainees and interns will make presentations on alcohol, tobaccos, other drugs, and related topics. Trainees and interns have the opportunity to work collaboratively with school administrators, teachers, parents, and clients to promote health, well-being and resiliency. Trainees and interns will receive extensive, ongoing training in mental health and substance abuse assessment, prevention, intervention, and treatment, and promotion of resiliency in adolescents. Placements include one hour of individual supervision and two hours of group supervision per week by licensed clinicians. Trainees and interns receive $2,000 payment for a 9-month placement at 20 hours per week.

Adult Alcohol and Drug Outpatient Treatment Intern - East County

This internship is open to undergraduates and Addiction Studies students. Interns will be participating in assessments, individual and group sessions. Depending on the length of their commitment they may be able to case manage by the end of the internship. Interns will receive group and individual supervision. The time commitment is flexible but interns should plan on a 20 hour per week commitment.
